”At home” means everywhere where life has taken me. I stand for election as Regional Councillor, because friends all over the world have encouraged me to do so. I know IUCN inside out, for I had the privilege to serve for 8 years as IUCN Regional Director for Pan Europe and represent the interests of all regions as a member of the IUCN Executive Management Group during 2 years.

I am moving on safe and familiar ground both at the parquet of politics and in the field, whether it is the alpine mountains of Europe, the jungle of Asia, or the bush in Australia and Africa. Others characterise me as reliable, transparent, creative and visionary.

I am committed to serve the IUCN family, to help the IUCN recapture its role as the global leader in nature conservation. We need innovative thinking to gain new, ever stronger momentum for conservation. I have and I will promote increased involvement of Members at all levels in the work of IUCN.

I would like to assist in the creative mobilisation of additional resources for the implementation of IUCN programmes and I support an increased share of resources in the Union for Commissions and Regions.

Please post any comments or questions on this page.

Lots to clear contin.
The IUCN Secretariat did a great job to allow members to get to know the candidates for election through the interactive website, which is a very welcome innovation. However, members and interested parties should be encouraged to make better use of this tool.
Elected Councilors have the obligation to stay in touch with 'their constituency' and be the link between constituency and the Council both ways. Councilors need to have their ears on the ground and feed ideas, concerns, fears, proposals into dialogue and decision processes in Council. Hence maintain the interactive site beyond elections

Lots of question to clear
E.g..The Latin American Region (LAR) e.g. pre-elects their 3 Regional Councilors (they are known to IUCN members their) in their region and then submits only these 3 candidates for 3 posts to be 'elected' or rather to be 'confirmed' by the WCC. The 6 Regional Councilor candidates nominated in the West Europe Region (WER) e.g. are voted on by all eligible IUCN members of all Regions at WCC. The members of the LAR might have only very limited knowledge (just what is available on the election website) of the WER candidates. So, why does WER not pre-elect also its max 3 candidates in the Region?

Are we going to hear more from you?
Hi Tamas,

We only hear of regional councillors at election time, how do you plan to change this?

Land use in Europe
Tamas - good to work with you this week at the land use vision workshop in Berlin and good to know we share remarkably similar ideas on the way land use needs to change in Europe.

Great to see you in this
Tamas, it is great that both of us are being considered for the same Council. From our earlkier work together in international forestry we have much to collaborate on for IUCN's benefit.
